Color Consultation & Specialty Finishes
Color guidance for the room you actually have, plus limewash, masonry coatings and decorative finishes for walls that need more than a plain coat.
Chapter 01
Why does a color chosen from a chip look different on the wall?
A paint chip is a two-inch square seen under store lighting. On a wall it is judged in morning light, lamp light and the shadow of your furniture, and the same color can read warmer, cooler or flatter each time. Sheen shifts it again: a color that looked soft on a matte chip can look hard in satin.
That mismatch is the usual regret in a repaint. It is rarely a bad color; it is the right color in the wrong light or the wrong sheen. Nate's answer is simple: test it on the actual wall, in the actual room, before a whole room's worth of paint is committed.

How does color guidance work with Olympus?
Olympus offers color guidance as part of the painting conversation. Samples go on the wall itself, so you can watch them through a full day beside your floors, trim and furniture. Recommendations come from the space: how much daylight it gets, what the room is used for, and which finish suits it.
The specialty side covers limewash, masonry coatings and decorative finishes. Limewash gives a soft, cloudy, mineral surface that a flat coat cannot imitate. Masonry coatings are made for brick and block, which behave differently from drywall. Decorative finishes suit the walls where a plain color is not enough. Ask Nate which one fits your project.
Chapter 03
What does a bold color look like once it is up?
The living room Olympus painted from cream to a deep red shows how far a wall can move. The dark-stained window trim holds its own against it, and the wing chair now reads as part of the room instead of something left in it. A bold color works when the trim, the light and the sheen were decided together with it.
Specialty surfaces ask for a different kind of care. Limewash and masonry coatings are worth a look from time to time for wear and moisture, and a decorative finish is easiest to touch up while the same materials are still on hand. Call (419) 283-1282 and Nate will talk through a free estimate, whether you are in Maumee, Holland or Ottawa Hills.
